About Us

About:

Wade Kennels owner/operator, Larry Wade, brings over 25 years of experience training and handling retrievers in both AKC and HRC hunt tests. He has produced multiple Hunting Retriever Champions and Master Hunters. Our slogan is that “All Labs Matter” because trained retrievers who understand their role become a happier and healthier member of the family. We do train more than just labs. It would be hard to find someone in the area with more experience training Chesapeakes as well. Regardless of the breed, our focus is on building a quality retriever that reaches its full potential that you’ll be proud to take to the duck blind.

Facility:

We are proud of our training/boarding facility. It is a fulltime, fully insured training/boarding operation located in Cabot, Arkansas - approximately 30 minutes north of Little Rock. We have several acres of technical ponds built specifically for honing a retriever’s hunting skills. All kennels are fully enclosed with heat and A/C to ensure a safe comfortable stay. All dogs have access to large airing yards for running and socializing multiple times every day.
In addition to our home facility in Cabot, we occasionally use 460 acres of private rolling hills, ponds, and pastures in southern Missouri. It is a cattle ranch that has been in the family

Gun Dog Training Program:

Almost all Our program is based on proven methods gleaned from years of experience - and incorporates some of the best techniques from other trainers - to develop a unique, effective, and efficient systematic approach. This program is based on the following principles:
1. Obedience and the trained retrieve (force-fetch) build the foundation for all future learning. Then, you and your hunting partner can progress through the three levels of development: Started/Junior, Seasoned/Senior, and Finished/Master.
2. Train the dog in front of you. Every dog is different, and thanks to efforts of responsible breeders, some are even blessed or gifted. To get to where you are going you must know where you are at. Our training program starts with an honest evaluation of the current performance level and attitude. Then, the program can be tailored to meet your dog needs and the performance and attitude is noted daily. There aren’t any dogs getting hammered with an e-collar until they comply. If your dog doesn’t show the natural potential for becoming a quality gun dog/retriever, it will usually show up in the first two weeks. We don’t want you to waste your time or money. You’ll be contacted as soon as possible to discuss possible options.
3. All training must be progressive and sequential. That doesn’t mean you don’t challenge the dog. It means we are always leaning forward drilling for skill and exposing the dogs to new concepts at their learning pace. And, nothing helps most dog’s attitudes more than feathers in their mouths. We use real ducks in training whenever possible.
4. Train the owner. After the first two weeks, we encourage the owners to get involved when possible. In addition, we are only a phone call away if issues arise after returning home.
We want your dog to be the best that he or she can be.

Vaccination Requirements

These vaccinations must be administered at least 48 hours prior to arrival under the guidance of a licensed veterinarian. However, we prefer vaccinations to be administered 10-14 days before check-in to ensure maximum efficiency. Written proof is required.  (I added this from PetSmart.)

DPP (Distemper, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza) 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required (Not required by my vet but highly suggested. I think it should be required and it is a normal part of shots in this area.)

Bordetella Required every 12 months and at least 48 hours prior to check-in to ensure maximum efficiency and protection against Kennel Cough. Please note: Many veterinarians administer this vaccine only by request.

Rabies 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required.

Canine Influenza (for dogs) Not required, but highly recommended to help protect against the Canine Influenza respiratory illness. Consult your veterinarian. (My vet requires this but I won't.)

Fleas & Ticks In addition to vaccinations, all pets should be flea and tick free. Overnight and Daily guests with signs of fleas and/or ticks will not be permitted to check-in. For dogs going through monthly training, flea and tick preventive must be provided by the owner or proof that it has been administered. This is so we continue to follow your veterinarian's recommendations for your pet.
